From September 15 through October 15, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month, a celebration of the histories and cultures of American citizens with ancestral ties to Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
Commemorations take place throughout the month to honor our proud Hispanics, including those who have built and defended our nation. The United States military honors the contributions of Hispanic soldiers and veterans and celebrates the diverse and inclusive environment of the U.S. Armed Forces. Observances celebrating rich Hispanic culture include music and film festivals, dance and art expositions, discussions and more.
At REDICO, we share in this month of appreciation by honoring the Hispanic team members in our company. One team member gave some thoughtful insight into what the holiday means to her.
Meet Bianca!
For Bianca Varela Ramirez, Assistant Portfolio Controller, National Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to reflect on the strength and diversity of the Hispanic/Latino community and to honor her roots. Bianca is proud of her Honduran heritage, especially the values and resilience passed down from her father, who immigrated to the U.S. in pursuit of a better life. His courage to leave behind his accounting career in Honduras continues to inspire Bianca in her professional journey.
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month gives Bianca an opportunity to not only highlight her own culture but also the rich diversity within the broader community. She takes pride in sharing the traditions of her hometown, Tela, through food, music and family gatherings. Whether it's enjoying traditional dishes like Baleadas or Sopa de Caracol or cherishing the annual family ritual of making tamales during the holidays, these moments help Bianca stay connected to her roots.
What makes this month especially meaningful for Bianca is the opportunity to educate others about the uniqueness of the Hispanic/Latino community. She points out that while they may share some cultural values, each country has its own distinct foods, traditions and dialects, making their contributions incredibly diverse. To her, National Hispanic Heritage Month is a celebration of both the unity and diversity within the community, and a reinforcement of her proud ancestry.
