REDICO: Leading the Way in Energy Efficiency

Becoming a top-performing building owner and operator requires dedication, strategy and investment. Every year, REDICO prioritizes energy efficiency in its properties to uphold high standards of performance. To achieve this, REDICO has partnered with Continuum Services, where Energy Engineer John Campbell plays a critical role in monitoring utilities, reducing energy consumption and optimizing building performance. A key part of this initiative is qualifying buildings for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR® Certification—an elite designation based on verified energy efficiency.

ENERGY STAR Certification

To achieve top performance, a building must meet strict energy standards set by the EPA. The agency’s Portfolio Manager program considers key metrics, such as occupancy, operating hours and energy consumption trends. John collaborates with each qualifying building’s Lead Building Engineer to collect and analyze data before submitting it for professional certification.

REDICO has an excellent partner in John, who is committed to efficiency goals and passionate about energy. He continuously works to enhance REDICO’s portfolio, undergoing multiple certifications at once. The certification process requires time and diligence, and once certified, buildings must be requalified annually. “The criteria for ENERGY STAR certification evolves, and maintaining your score becomes more challenging every year,” John notes. “As technology advances, the benchmarks for energy efficiency rise, requiring continuous improvement.”

Why Certification Matters

ENERGY STAR certification offers substantial benefits to REDICO properties, including:

  • Improving the overall standards of a building

  • Lower operating costs due to reduced energy consumption

  • A healthier environment through reduced greenhouse gas emissions

  • Compliance with corporate sustainability goals and regulations

  • Increased asset value and stronger market competitiveness

REDICO recognizes the value of energy performance, and its partnership with Continuum Services ensures that properties remain at the forefront of efficiency. “ENERGY STAR certification not only helps us secure government leases, as government tenants require certified buildings, but also appeals to other tenants committed to environmental stewardship,” said Janet Stevens, Director of Office Properties at REDICO. “It’s a strong selling point for our buildings, as tenants increasingly ask about our sustainability efforts. In the end, it makes everyone look good and feel good about being environmentally conscious.”

REDICO Certified Buildings

Thanks to REDICO’s commitment and its partnership with Continuum Services, several properties have earned ENERGY STAR Certification for 2024. These buildings rank among the top 25 percent nationwide for energy performance:
