REDICO’s Woodlands Officecentre Now Home to the Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson’s Wellness.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[April 8, 2025] – Renovations are underway on the new Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson’s Wellness at REDICO’s Woodlands Officecentre. Located in Farmington Hills along the Northwestern Highway corridor, the Center will be easily accessible for residents from Wayne, Macomb and Oakland Counties, making it a convenient destination for 2.7 million people, including 8,000 from the Parkinson’s community. The Center’s expansive 40,892 square feet at Woodlands offers ample space for a wide range of comprehensive programming. The grand opening is set for Fall 2025.

“We are so proud to play a role in seeing Kirk’s vision become a reality,” said Dale Watchowski, President and CEO of REDICO. “Not only does the Woodlands Officecentre provide the Kirk Gibson Center a central location in a densely populated area in SE Michigan, but it’s also a premium Class-A property with buildout opportunities that fulfill the functionality, programming and interactive needs of the Center.”

Steve Annear, CEO of the Kirk Gibson Foundation for Parkinson’s said, “The Woodlands facility provides us with a unique combination of a wonderful location and a first-class quality building. The design of the building itself is a great fit for the programming we will provide and the community we aim to build. Our partnership with the great team at REDICO has been important to making this happen and we look forward to working together for a successful opening.”

Kirk Gibson, the former professional baseball outfielder and manager, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2015. Through his foundation, he has made it his mission to educate, spread awareness, and provide inspiration to those living with the disease. After eight years of fundraising, construction is now underway, bringing his vision of a state-of-the-art facility to life at Woodlands.

“Opening this Parkinson’s Center means providing a center of hope for anyone fighting this battle with Parkinson’s,” said Gibson. “Every step forward, every breakthrough we make together, reflects the strength we find in each other. This journey is personal, but it’s also for all those who need to know they’re not alone.”

With Movement Matters as its rallying cry, the Kirk Gibson Center for Parkinson’s Wellness takes a strategic approach to Parkinson’s through exercise and movement programming. It will be the first of its kind in Michigan, offering a safe space for those with Parkinson’s and their caregivers to connect with others facing similar challenges.

All offerings at the center will be free for members, who must first complete a registration process. “Registration is really important,” said Steve Annear. “The reason is that people with Parkinson’s usually have a unique set of symptoms, and it can affect individuals very differently. Therefore, our classes are set up according to the classification of mobility and ability of the individuals.”

Once registered on the company website, members can enjoy a variety of activities, including boxing, active stretching, yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, and dance. The facility will also offer cognitive improvement programs like speech therapy, and art and music therapy, as well as educational sessions on kitchen and fall safety, and nutrition.

In addition to the Kirk Gibson Center, four other new tenants—Sam Bernstein Law, Amentum Technology, Fishbeck and The Healing Haven: Behavioral Health & Autism Therapy Services —will be part of the Woodlands Officecentre in 2025, pushing occupancy to 95% in the 235,000 square foot building.

The Kirk Gibson Foundation was created in 1996 to provide college scholarships to both athletes and non-athletes at Waterford Kettering and Clarkston High Schools, where Kirk’s parents, Robert and Barbara, taught for many years. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2015, he expanded the mission of the Foundation to improve the quality of life of those living with Parkinson’s through the development and delivery of activity-based programs. Kirk’s vision is to provide inspiration, hope and help to those living with Parkinson’s disease and their loved ones. Since that expansion, the Foundation has raised more than $3 million towards research grants and programs to support the Parkinson’s community.
